In a tragic incident, Madhuri, the daughter of YSR Congress Party Rajya Sabha MP Beeda Masthan Rao, allegedly ran her BMW over Surya, a 24-year-old painter sleeping on a pavement in Chennai’s Besant Nagar. The incident occurred on Monday night, just weeks after a similar high-profile accident in Pune. Surya, who was inebriated, was rushed to a hospital by bystanders but succumbed to his injuries.
Madhuri, accompanied by a female friend, reportedly drove the car that caused the fatal accident. Following the incident, her friend argued with the gathered crowd before leaving the scene. Despite being arrested, Madhuri was granted bail at the police station.
Surya had been married for only eight months, and his death led to protests by his relatives and residents at the J-5 Shastri Nagar Police Station, demanding justice. CCTV footage confirmed that the car belonged to the BMR Group, owned by Madhuri’s father. Beeda Masthan Rao, a prominent figure in the seafood industry, became a Rajya Sabha MP in 2022 and has previously served as an MLA.
